Hello, my name is Tyson Mauldin. I am the owner and operator of Leading Edge Aviation. I live and breath aviation and strive to provide the best services at an affordable price.
I have been in the aviation industry since 2009 when I started learning to fly. Since then, I have accumulated over 1,400 hours of flight experience in many different aircraft all across the country. I served 6 years in the United States Air Force as a KC-10 aircraft maintenance crew chief. During that time I earned my Airframe & Powerplant certificate. I have been a mechanic for more than 10 years and I also have my Inspection Authorization. Since becoming a mechanic, I have worked for multiple FAA Repair Stations and held positions such as inspector and production supervisor. I love being a pilot and an aircraft maintenance technician!
My aviation career would not be what it is today without the love and support of my family.
After highschool, my fascination with planes, engines, and general mechanics inspired me to enlist in the United States Air Force as an Aerospace Propulsion Technician, where I spent 20 years maintaining the E-3 AWACS. During that time I was stationed at Tinker AFB in OKC and Kadena AB in Japan, as well as many deployments and TDY's across the world. Upon retiring from the Air Force, I was hired at a local part 145 repair station in OKC. During my tenure, I worked as an A&P mechanic and was quickly promoted to team lead after 3 short months. As a team lead, it was my responsibility to ensure projects on multi-million dollar business jets were completed in a timely manner while also ensuring my mechanics were performing by the book maintenance and doing so in a safe manner. I joined the team with Leading Edge Aviation on January 1, 2024 where I have had the distinct pleasure of working on General Aviation aircraft. My goal is to earn my Inspection Authorization and continue providing top notch service for the General Aviation community in the OKC metro and surrounding areas!

I have been around and involved in aviation since an early age. My father was a private pilot that used general aviation for business travel and was a partner with an A&P mechanic in a company that rebuilt a Piper Cherokee 140. This project exposed me to the processes and techniques involved in aircraft maintenance and rebuilding with the end result of me being able to take lessons in that airplane. Fast forward to 2011 when I got my private pilot certificate followed shortly after with an instrument rating. Being involved in two local flying clubs revealed the growing shortage of A&P/IA mechanics for the aging fleet of general aviation aircraft. This shortage manifested itself on a trip to Oshkosh when a magneto failed at a fuel stop. A number of frustrating hours were spent trying to find a mobile mechanic to remove, repair and reinstall this magneto. This experience was a defining point in my decision to help with the aviation mechanic shortage. I enrolled in the Aviation Maintenance Technician program at Metro Technology Center in OKC and during my tenure was named Outstanding Student, Director’s Student of the Year and was a recipient of the Clay Pate Award. Currently, I am an A&P mechanic working towards an IA certification and I'm also a substitute instructor in the Aviation Maintenance Technician program at Metro Tech.
